OKLAHOMA BASED VANGOUGH INDICATED AT HARD CITY

Vangough_2011_bw_03

VANGOUGH, from Oklahoma released their third album entitled «Kingdom of Ruin» an excellent album that undoubtedly won the impressions in the presence of the Hard City. In the interview below you can learn everything about them and as they told us they have already started working on their new album which will release the next year, and we will be here once again to welcomes it.

-Hello guys, best wishes on your new album. This is your third studio album right? Tell us a bit about it.

Thank you very much and yes, this is the third studio album but really the second full Vangough album since Game On! was just a release of cover songs. Think of Kingdom of Ruin as a direct follow-up to Manikin Parade.

-Which are the themes, lyrically talking, that you are dealing with?

A lot of the themes deal with the many struggles we as individuals make on a daily basis. I think more than anything it just explores the nature of our enduring spirit, which can be perfectly beautiful or painfully malevolent.

- And what is the goal with your album?

The goal of this album was to paint Vangough on a very raw canvas that would strip away a lot of the previous album’s elements. We wanted to go down a different path and bridge many styles together.

-What are your main musical influences?

Film soundtracks, rock bands and even classical music seem to influence me a great deal. This particular album found a lot of inspiration from bands like The Flower Kings, Spock’s Beard and ACT.

- How could you describe your music?

A rabbit-fueled journey through time and space in a strange haunted house of anxieties, fears and jubilation.

-What is the best song in your opinion from your new album “Kingdom of Ruin”?

They’re all equal in quality since I don’t put filler on the albums. Each song has its own strengths that speak to my nature as a songwriter. There’s always a bit of personal perspective on each track even if I don’t realize it.

-You signed a contract with Nightmare Records. How much does this helps you in order to make your name known to the music society?

We’ve definitely seen far more distribution than on our previous releases. I also have to give the label a grand amount of gratitude for allowing me the artistic license to put a rabbit on the cover. We’ve never fit in too well with a strict genre due to my eclectic nature and this album cover is a testament to that. It’s kind of like a middle finger to the trappings of generic conventions (although a cute white fluffy finger).

-Is there any leader on your band or you are mostly working as a team?

We’re a tight team – think swat tactical. One guy kicks down the door, the other lets loose a blast of mustard gas. But seriously, we are an elite squad of trained soldiers.

-Have you ever being in Europe?

As a band? Not yet. But I have been to Greece and it was so awesome. I stayed in Kea for a week or so and then spent some time in Athens. This was many moons ago. I hope to return soon!

-Have you got any plans for touring in order to support your album?

For right now we are keeping some options open for a Spring tour but economically it’s going to be a challenge due to our geographic location (Oklahoma). But you can bet we’re ready to come to Europe!

-And what about record a new album. Is it too early thinking something like this, or you plan soon going back to studio and record a follow up to Kingdom of Ruins?

It’s never too early! I’m already knee-deep in the next album and will look forward to chatting with you again next year when it is finished.

- Ok guys, thank you so much for your time and for this interview. Hope to talk back to you soon. Have you got any last word to add?
